Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, But You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Those who are far from You will perish; You have cut off all who are unfaithful to You. But as for me, it is good to be near You. I have made You, Lord God, my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works. (Psalm 73:25 – 28).
Lord, I live in a world that constantly competes for my attention. Tonight is the super bowl. Tomorrow it will be another attraction. And the day after that there will be another advertisement.
My flesh fails. My desires are not perfected. And it feels like you’re far from me. Yet just the opposite is true.
I can’t rely on self for deliverance. I need a refuge. You become and you are more precious to me than gold or any earthly allurement. Remind me once again of the never-ending love of God. Your presence makes all the difference.
This is why it’s so good to be near you! Jesus, you made that possible. So, in a world that is so dangerous, both physically and spiritually, I boldly proclaim, “You are my refuge!”
My hope and confidence is in you! You are better than anything this world can offer me. So, make me more like you! And may my life honor you! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
